NATURE OF PROBLEM::
Acne is a common disease of the philosebaceous units of the face, ears, the neck, the chest, shoulders and the back. Acne is characterized by both chronic inflammatory (papules, pustules, nodules) and non-inflammatory lesions - open (blackheads) and closed comedowns (whiteheads).
Severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring. Acne scars is a tissue injury caused by the body's inflammatory response to sebum, bacteria and dead cells in the plugged sebaceous follicle. Two types of true scars exist: (1) depressed areas such as ice-pick scars, and (2) raised thickened tissue such as keloids. When skin injury happens, the body rushes to repair it.
