NATURE OF PROBLEM::
Folliculitis Barbae is a male skin condition that occurs more frequently with particularly curly beard hair. Pseudofolliculitis Barbae is common disorder characterized by inflammation of the hair follicle. Folliculitis is inflammation of one or more hair follicles. Folliculitis Barbae is caused by the Staphylococcus infection of the hair follicles in the bearded area of the face, usually in the upper lip. Shaving aggravates the condition. If curly beard hair is cut too short, it may curve back into the skin and cause inflammation.
The hairs curl over inside the follicles under the skin, creating a red, sore spot on the skin. The follicle opening may also be partially blocked by cellular debris, which increases the frequency of in-grown hairs. Folliculitis Barbae is not acne but has similarities to acne (pustules and infection).
Folliculitis may occur anywhere on the skin, as a result of injury or damage to the hair follicle caused by friction from clothing, by blockage of the follicle, or by mechanical trauma, such as shaving.
